1 The chairman of the Publio Service Tenders Board requires tenders for tbe supply and delivery of uniforms and head gear in such quantities as may be ordered during the three years commencing on January 1, 1914." D. Riley and Co., AVellington, £137 10s.; 3000 rings, Lawrence and Hanson, Wellington, £52 10s.; 3000 telephones (8.8. wall), B. L. Donne, Wellington, £7537 10s. The famous "Sebnstopol bell" 'taken by the French during the Crimean War, and since kept in Notrs Dame, is being restored to Russia. Hobble skirts appear to interfere with the eraceful climbing of stiles. It was stated at a meeting of the Hockley (Essex) Parish Council that the stipes in that district are largely used, and that women wlio wear the narrow skirts so fashionable npw have groat troub e in trotting over them. The council debated the matter with .becoming seriousness, and ultimately decided to como to the aid of the fashionable dwollers of their district by inserting another step in the stiles and so making the climb lesa steep.
