NOTES AND COMMENTS.
[By Glencoe.] An Auckland writer mentions that the success of Goldie in the.Onehunga Handicap at the Auckland Trotting Club s meeting last Wednesday gives his sire, Wildwood, Jr., a unique record. As a two-year-old Wildwood Jr. was mated with only two mares, two colts being the result, Calm and Goldie. These are the only two of his stock that liavo raced. They have started in sis races, and possess an unbeaten recorcl. Five of their victories were scored in two mile races. The Monoform gelding Monorail is reported to have gone wrong at Ellerslie. He was galloped on Tuesday morning when he showed symptoms of soreness behind. He was worked again' on Wednesday morning, when the lamoness was more pronounced, and the services of Dr. Ring had to be called in. It is feared the gelding will have to be treated to a lengthy spell. Descendants of Soult have won the Great Northern. Guineas on five occasions, the last three in succession. This year will be the last in which a Soult three-year-old will be seen in commission, and with Soltano, Merry 800, Soultikoff, Marconi, Marshal MacDon- > aid, and Soldier engaged, the defunct St. Simon horse possesses every chance • of having another succcss credited to ' one of his progeny. _ .
