ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
GAOL ACCIDENT. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) • Christchurcli, October 22. Shortly before 2.30 this afternoon a serious accident occurred at the Lyttelton Gaol. A number of prisoners wore engaged hi lifting .t ladder over the gate which gives x access to the'prison.' A prisoner named. Richard. Raymond' Was on tho inside of tho entrance assisting to get the ladder into position :by means of a rope ladder, and ho di.s» lodged a heavy piece of '.masonry, wmch fell a distance of some 20ft., striking him on the head. Dr. Newell was quickly in attendance, and, after rendering first aid, ordered the man s removal to the casualty ward. , The injured man is in a very precarious condition. His skull is fractured.,, and little hope is entertain.cd for his recovery. T . Later.
