FIRE-FIGHTERS' WAGES.
AGREEMENT IN AUCKLAND. (By Teleffraph— Proas Association.) Auckland, October 17. The Conciliation Council continued tho healing to-day of the fire brigades dispute. After lengthy discussion the ivholo di sp 11 to was settled' in a friendly way, tho only clause which tho Arbitration Court has to consider being preference, which tho employers talce to tho Court. In all new ■ awards wages agreed' upon are as under:—Firemen: First three months. £2 os. per week; three to nine months, £2 Bs.; nine to twelve months, £2 lis.; over twolve months, £2 14s. Senior firemen: £2 17s. 6d., subjcct to Wellington conditions. Motormen are to commence at £2 10s. per week and riso by annual increments of 2s. 6d. per week, but they cannot obtain a higlier wage than £3 6s. per week. Provision is made that wages of all firemen and motormen at present in tho employ of the Fire Board shall not be reduced. The new rates are slightly higher than those given in the Wellington award. Day watchroom attendants get £1 10a. per week at the oominencomont of employment, with an annual inoroase of 6s. per weak until £2 6s. is reached. Married men at pre-, sent in tho servico who are not provided with, quarters shall have housoallowance of 10s. per week. This is a new concession. Tho award 1 is limited to the above-mentioned employees, and does not apply to officers of the brigade. It is provided that tho union shall not affiliate with any federation or trade union ot any other industrial organisation of workers or any outside body of workers. .The awards shall remain in existence for two years from October 16.
