The fresh outbreak of fire at the Scnghenydd colliery has mado the position aa bad as ever. Resoue work is to bo abandoned until tho fi'ro has beon subdued. It is proposed to out a oirouitous way to the entombed men, in the faint hopo of finding Bomo alivo. (Reo. October 17, 0,20 p.m.) London, Ootobor 17. The cause of the Senghenydd colliery disaster is unknown. Official figures show that 434 men ara dead or missing. The disaster has made a hideous gap in tho life of SeDghenydd. One chapel lost throe-fifths of its male members; in one household eight out of nine have gone; In another one Boy is loft out of a household of eleven. Rescue teams from every Welsh coalfield are engaged trying to got round tho fire to the isolated portion of tho mine whore tho men are entombed. The rescuers aro working in an atmos-; phero of extreme peril. The mine is full of gas, and atteraamp, and thero is a grave danger of a further explosion. It will prcbably take months to recover the viotims. RELIEF AND SYMPATHY FOR THE SUFFERERS. London, October 16. The Lord Mayor of Cardiff has opened a relief fund. The Marquis of Bute has given '1500 guineas. It is' understood that tho Universal colliery proprietors' liability for miners' deaths is covered TJy insurances averaging from £160 to £200 each. Tho claims will probably exceed £50,000. Tho mine: \vaß~~not insured. Lord Denman (Govornor-General of 'Australia), Sir QeraH Strickland Woven) or of Now South Wales), Herr Bethmann Hollweg .
