a ARREST AND ESCAPE OF SYLVIA PANKHURST. POLICE USE THEIR BATONS. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright London, October 13. There were exciting scenes at a Suffragette meeting at Bow Baths. A muffled lady was oil tho platform, and when, she disclosed herself she was found to be Hiss S.vlvia Pankhurst. Tho polico rushed tho platform, and a free fight took placo. The police used their truncheons freely, and tho audience replied, using chairs as weapons. Miss Sylvia l'ankhurst escaped, but Mrs. Leigh was arrested. (Ilcc. October 15, 0.15 a.m.) London, October 14. There were many hysterical scenes ut Bow Batlia, some women screaming for protection, while others hurled chairs at tho police, and dropped bencbcs oil their heads from a gallery. Tho light lasted a considerable time, and police reinforcements were needed tj control the situation. Miss Sylvia Pankhurst was arrested, and placed in a taxi. The crowd surrounded tho car, and endeavoured to rescue her. « , Tho polico were forced to use their /batons, and Miss Pankhurst escaped in the melee. THE HUNGER-STRIKERS. London, October 13. At Feltham, the Sufi'ragottcs Mary Richardson (who has been four times arrested under tho "Cat-and-Mouse" Act), and Rachel Pearce, both looking , palo and haggard owing to their liungerstriko, were, committed for trial. Richardson declared that no ono could compel her to servo any senteiico.
Miss Annie Kenney, who "hungerstruck," is in a dangerous condition, and has beon released.
