(Prom Our Spccial Correspondent.) ♦ HUTT TROTTING CLUB. At the annual meeting of the stewards of the Mutt Valley Trotting Club, held on Monday evening, (Mr. M. Palmer presiding), the following officers wcro clected'for tho year:—President, Mr. A. Al. Samuel; patrons, Messrs. J. Carroll and T. M. Wilford, M.P.'s; vice-presi-dents, Messrs. H. Palmer, 0. Stevens, T. Jitlwards, W. A. Mobray, G. A. Chapman, I'. M'Parland, Dr. Ross, H. Baldwin, E. P. .Bunny, S, V. Burridge, H. Card, 11. Dansev, and A. Johnston; secretary, Mr. H. W. Short; treasurer, Mr. J. Sharpe; judge, Mr. A. Laurenson ; starter, Sir. S. V. Burridge; liandicapper, Mr. F. C. Thomas; clerk of course, Mr. H. Arnold; auditor, Mr. R. Wylie; delegate to Trotting Association, Mr. A. M. Samuel; hon. veterinary surgeon, Mr. F. Corssley; timekeepers, Messrs. H. F. Boss, J. Sharpe, and T. Thompson; clerk of scales, Mr. H. Edwards. A programme of eight races, with added money (£545) was approved, these events including a bracelet (valued at £10 10s.) presented by Mr. H. Palmer. It was decided to hold tlie races on January 23. EX-NAVALS GATHERING. A well-attended meeting of the Petone Ex-Navals Association was hold last evening. Tho report outlined tlrt) year's progress, and stated that an arrangement had been made with tho No. 5 Company, whereby the use of No. 2 cutter could bo obtained at any time that No. 5 Company did not require it. The crew had put up a good fight for tho cup, which was rowed for in Wellington last December, but were defeated by a narrow margin. BUILDING BRISK.' The new buildings and additions to the Gear Meat Works at Petone liavo considerably augmented, the value of building permits issued in Petone this month. The building operations going on at the works, together with the crection of two dwellings in the borough, have cost £20,972, and from these fees totalling £9 10s. lOd. have been received by tlie Borough Council. Altogether building has been particularly brisk in the borough this year, the total value in this direction having been £34,910. SOCIAL GATHERING. About 50 couples attended, tho plair and masquerade ball last evening giver by the-members of tho Petone S.R Club to close the season. Mr. S. Stew - ' art was M.C., and Mrs. Pollock sup plied the music. Ail enjoyable even ing was spent. Mr. C. T. Lowin, of Petone, is leaving there shortly to take up resident in Wanganui.
