KENT TERRACE CHURCH.

THE CONVERSAZIONE,

Tho anniversary conversazione of the Kent Terrace Presbyterian Church was held in the-church schoolroom last evening. The Rev. J. Kennedy Elliott presided. Associated with him on the platform were Messrs. G. M. Thompson, M.P., J. fx. W. Aitken, and D. Robertson. Tho attendance was a largo 0110. Tho Rev. Mr. Elliott, in tho course of a short speech, said that, although he had 110 report to submit to tlio meeting, he could congratulate tho church on its general progress and also on tho progress of tho year. The finances had suffered somewhat owing to tho fact that pew rents had not been paid as they should have been, but it had been decided to adopt the envelope system of receiving collections, and do away altogether with tho pew rents. Ho suggested that tho finances would benefit somewhat if a sale of work, extending over three or four-days, were, held. Mr. Elliott then went 011 to' point out how important it was that parents should see that their children attended church. Messrs. Thompson, Aitken, and Robertson also gave short speeches, making special reference to the onward progress of Presbyterianism. ' At' the conclusion of the addresses, refreshments were provided by tho Ladies' Committee.

Mr. James Kershaw, of Waimea Street,- Nelson, died oil Saturday afternoon after a long illness. Deceased liad been in business as an engineer in Nelson for many years, and was highly esteemed by all who_ knew him. He took a keen interest in local affairs, arid recently served for a term as a City Councillor. He was also a member of Court Robin Hood, A.O.P. He leaves a widow aud grown-up family of two sons and three daughters.
