POLICEMAN KILLS HIS ASSAILANT.
FIRED AT BY A' MURDERER. Br Teleffraph—Pr«sa Aajaclatlon-Copyrtelil (Rec. Ootober 13, 9.30 p.m.) Sydney, October 13. The police report the occurrence of a tragedy at Woolbrook, near Armidale. A half-caste named Brown had slot his mother-in-law dead, and w3ien Constable Clarko, who was sent to arrest him, was approaching the house, Brown fired several harmless shots at him. Clark replied, wounding Brown fatally. Brown was an ex-black tracker. He wa? armed with a rifle. Constable Clark, finding his revolver out-ranged, procured a rifle. The cause of tho tragedy is unknown.
