MENTAL HOSPITAL TRAGEDY.
A. FEMALE DISAPPEARS. ; (By Telasraph.—Press Association.) Dunedin, October 12. On October 1 a female patient at Seajpliff Mental Hospital was allowed to go 'out for a walk m tho grounds with a relative who undertook to roturn with her to tho institution after the walk. Tho latter fouiid ho was pressed for timo to catch his train, and tho patient, whose condition seemed to hjm to Bo muoh improved, persuaded him fo lot her return tho short distance alone. As she appeared quite rational he agreed to her request. She did not return, however. She was missed almost at onoo and when tho alarm was Given search was promptly undertaken by tho offibials, who discovered portions, of tho woman's clothing, comprising a skirt, hat, gloves, etc., on tho hillsido near the beach, and indications of a elide down tho precipitous face of tho cliff that left no reasonable doubt , that the unfortunate woman had thrown horself into the sea. The characteristics of the spot she chose are such that it is exceedingly problematical if (the body will ever bo recovered.
