PASTOR THOMAS SPURGEON AT HACKNEY.
The historio Maro Street Chapel, Hackney, was crowded on Sunday evening, August 24, on tho occasion of a visit from tho Rev. Thomas Spurgeon, (who was for some years pastor oitlia Auckland Baptist Tabernacle). Ho.waj preaching on behalf of tho College and tho Stockwoll Orphanage, Mr. Spurgeon was in comparatively ro-> bust health, and tho service was conducted heartily with clear, ringing voica throughout. Tho quaint humour sa( reminiscent of "C.H.S." was apparent when, in pleading tho cause of tho orphans, ho said, "Wo do not dress tho ; children in tho fashions of a hundred' years ago, because wo do not desire make 'objects' of them, and for a cisely similar reason wo do not them in tho fashions of to-day!" Mr. Spurgeon's engagements in connection with this deputation .Work extend witln out a singlo frca Sunday until May,] 1014. '
