The San Francisco steamer which arrived on Thursday morning brought a largo consignment of fruit, mainly apples, for Wellington and southern ports. The larger proportion of the apples arrived in first-class condition. The plums did not ■ carry very well and the bulk were in fair order only.
Tho'lsland steamer landed tho usual shipment of bananas which sold at high rates. New South Wales fruit camo to hand in increased quantities this week and vaules for alt lines fell in consecjuenco. A few Tasmania!! apples arrived yesterday and commanded good values. - There aro still a few local apples and pears coming to hand, tho latter ex cool stores, and practically all lines are in keen demand.
Vegetables aro in heavy supply, especially cabbages which have been sold at very low rates during tho last few days.. Tho onion market is unaltered, but potatoes are somewhat firmer. Fresh eggs are in equal supply and demand. Yesterday's approximate values wero: Bananas, 135., 15s. 6d. per case; Mildura lemons, 12s. Gd. ease; Sydney lemons, 65., Bs. case; passion fruit, 95., Us. } case; loquats, 55., 7s. 6d.
