SELF-DENIAL WEEK.

The Salvation Army's Self-Denial appeal closes on October 24, and the Wellington Corps is making a strong effort to retain the record established last year. The appeal is being maae simultaneously throughout New Zealand and Australia, and the Army authorities state that Sydney is making a big bid to outdo Wellington. By permission of the City Council a street collection' was mado on Saturday, and the weather being all that could be desired their efforts mot with success, £74 10s. being collected in the City, and £14 10s. in Wellington South. This total of £89 compares very favourably with last year's street collection, which amounted to a sum a little short of £50. ' .
