FIRE AT PETONE.
A fire broke out at 2.50 yesterday morning at a five-roomed houso in Nelson Street, Petono, owned by Mr. R. C. Ivirk, and occupied by Mr. W. Wilton, bootmaker. Beforo tho brigade arrived the firo had a firm hold, and tho houso was soon totally destroyed. It appears that some timo was lost owing to tho passer-by who discovered the outbreak not seeing an alarm-box on Jackson Street corner, and having to travel about half a mile to the Firo Station. Tho ocoupants wero absent at. the time in Wellington. The furniture, tools, and effects wero insured in the Liverpool, London, and Globe office for £100, and tho houso in the South British Co',, for £150.
