LAWN TENNIS.
BROUGHAM HILL CLUB OPENS. , The Brougham Hill Lawn Tennis Club opened its season on Saturday. There was. a large .attendance of membors, visiting players,"arid onlookers'; including. several members of tlio "Quaker Girl" Company, who proved that tliey wore quito ablo to hold their own in the game., Mr. Goldie (tho vice-presi-dent) mad© a short speech in welcoming the president (Mr. J. G.. W. Aitken), who in declaring the season open, wished the club every success and' congratulated members on tho lumber of grades they had won in tho last inter-club contests. Ho hoped , they would do better during tlio season they had just entered upon. He then hit a ball over the not and thus ocncluded a pleasant little ceremony. A very enjoyable afternoon .was spent, tho weather being almost perfect. Mrs. J. A. B. Howo presided over tho afternoon tea which proved very acoeptable, and' a string band provided an excellent musical programme. WELLINGTON CLUB. At Palmer Streot, tho Wellington T«nniß Club's season was opened bv Dr. Young, president of tho club. A great many visitors were present and were entertained at afternoon tea. Scratch games were played as long as the light lasted, among those talcing part being tho New Zealand champion, 11. N. It. Swanston. NEWTOWN CLUB. The Newtown Tennis Club'B Courts were also opened for tho season on Saturday, and scratch gamos kept tho tlireo courts busy throughout tho afternoon.
