Speaking nt Ryde, Mr. Griffith (Minister of Public Works) complained of a campaign of calumny and slander against him. Referring to tho Medlow land case, he said that some of his friends had somo land adjoining, and because he put a few pounds with them into the poultry business it was pretended that he had beon doing something discreditable. He paid a tribute to the morning papers, declaring that without tlioir aid the Wado party would shrink up like a parcel of worms in a blast-furnace. ''NO EVIDENCE." MR. WADE AND THE COMMISSION. (Rec. October 2, 8.50 p.m.) Sydnoy, October 2. The Wade-Griffith Royal Commission has fizzled out. At the opening of tho Commission Mr. Wado detailed tho tonus of his censure motion against Mr. Griffith, in Parliament, and was proceeding to espluin further, when Mr. Justice Pring (the Royal Commissioner) interrupted him, stating that lie could not listen to him. Mr. Wado then intimated that as the Commission gave him no power to call evidence regarding the Medlow land transaction, ho declined to call any evidence at all. Mr. Justice Pring replied that he could therefore only report that ho had no evidence before him upon which to conduct the inquiry.
