THE DISASTER TO THE CAMEL CORPS.
COMMANDING OFFICER TO BLAME. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Rec. October 2, 6.50 p.m. ) London, October 2. A seoond Blue Book dealing with the recent Somaliland disaster shows that Mr. Lewis Hrircourt, Secretary of State for tho Colonies, disapproved of the splitting up of tho camel corps or of tho extension of tho sphero of operations. Mr. G. Archer, the Acting-Commis-sioner of Somaliland, testified to tho late Colonel Corfield's bravory aud energy, but reluctantly charged him with the perpetration of a rash act involving the Protectorate and tho Government in a severe set-back. Mr. Harcourt, commenting on the evidence, states that tho disaster was due to Colonel Corfield's complete disregard of instructions. Mr. Archer has been gazetted a. Companion of tho Order of St. Michael and St. George, in • recognition of his work with tho relief expedition.
