There was practically no water supply, and the fare spread so rapidly that bv 2.30 a.m. the greater part of tho town had been reduced to ruins, and presented a heart-breaking appearance. The Firo Brigade dynamited Nicol's i tea rooms, and the gap thus made and the concrete of Burton's shop arrested tho progress of the firo on that sido of tho street.
