SWIMMING.

THE WELLINGTON CLUB. The membership of'tho AVellington Swimming Club is commented upon in tho club's annual report. The season started with a membership of 201 .members and during the season it fell to 172. In spito of the decrease the position is regarded as very satisfactory, as the membership list has been purged of non-financial members, leaving the remainder in active membership. During tho. season competition was very keen iii tho racing, especially in the junior division. is due to Mr. R. J. Grimmott ifor his assiduous efforts on behalf of the juniors. The report details tho various swimming events of the season, and'attributes tho fallingoff in entries to tho absence of mambers from town in camp or for other reasons. Mention is mado of the good wqrlc done by Mr. G. P. Hanna in training a squad of boys for tho annual carnival..' Tlie finances of the club aro stated to ho" at present not very strong, but in view of tlio bad season tho small crodit balance is regarded as satisfactory. Several pounds Ravo been spent on the junior department and as no entrance fee is charged for races 'no financial return is received. ' Tho swimmers arc, howovor, benefited. The Wellington Club is claimed to_ be the only duo that looks after its juniors. Acknowledgments are mado to Messrs. J. Duthie, T. Ronayne, D. K; Blair, J. F. Atkins, F. Boffa, C. E. Odlin, the Stewart Timber Company, W. Hornig, T. Langdon, and S. A. Murrell for donations during the season; to Mr. W. N.ißeiiven for a gold medal; to Mr. G. P. Hanna for a banner for diving, and to, Mr. R .J.. Grimmett for an honours board; to Mr. and Mrs. Wilton for kindness extehded to members, and to Mr. W. G. Morpeth for his arduous work as handicapper. "Generally speaking," concludes the report, "the season reviewed has not been very satisfactory, mainly on account of tho bad weather, but everything looks bright for the next season." s
