BACK FENCE TALKS.
AT THE INFECTIOUS DISEASES HOSPITAL. A familiar sight on a Sunday afternoon on a part of the Town Bolt which impinges on the Hospital reserve is the number of people who maks their way to the back fence of the Infectious Diseases there to hold converse with convalescents on this other side of a tall iron fence. If one walks ■ straight '■'for' the Infectious Diseases • Hospital gate, which forms the northern end of Coromandol Street, he (or she) is informed by_a notice that there is absolutely no admittance, and that all inquiries have to be made at the General Hospital, which is about twenty minutes' walk awaj by the nearest route. On inquiry at the Goneral Hos- ( pital, suoh visitors aro informed that there is a way over the hill at the back af the consumptive shelters, and without further guidance are left to find their way over the green hills of the Town Bolt. Others with more experience take the tram to Constable Street, proceed along. Coromandel Street, turn up Mein Street to the Town Belt, and so along to the back fence of the Infectious Diseases Hospital. There are a,t present no arrangements for visitors to see convalescents, and the rough-and-ready means narratedare merely the outcome of individual enterprise on the part of those interested in patients.
