THE TERRACE GAOL GANG.
EIGHTEEN PUNISHED. • It is understood that tho eighteen prisoners who stopped tho march of the prison gang on their way from She Mount Cook brickworks to the Terraco Gaol on Friday havo been dealt with and punished by Mr. J, R. Blair (Visiting Justice). Tho investigation was held on Saturday, but particulars are not available. On Saturday morning the brickworks gang went to its work without the company of the eighteen who refused to march when ordered. Tho gang numbered forty-eight, and thoy were guarded by nine warders, seven of whom carried rifles with bayonets affixed. Tho march to a.nd from tho prison _ was orderly, and it is reported that sin Friday evening no trouble has been given. Reverting to Friday afternoon s refusal to march, a danger to tho public has been pointed out. On Friday the public crowded round tho refractories thoughtless of the fact that if ono of the prisoners had bolted some warder might have fired, and fired to tho in--jury.of some of,the spectators.
