FRENCH RESIDENTS IN SYDNEY ANNOYED. "INSULTING REFERENCES" TO THE FLAG. By Telegraph—Press Association-Copyright (llcc. September 27, 0.25 a.ni.) Sydney, September 26. A deputation'of French residents in Sydney waited on the French Consul and expressed indignation at tho action of Mr. Glynn (Minister for External Affairs), in allowing insulting references to be made to tlie French Flag in his. presence, without protest. Tho deputation complained that according to tho newspaper report, one of the"members of *tho_ deputation of Presbyterian missionaries, who waited on. Mr. Glynn in Melbourne somo days ago in referenco to affairs in the New Hebrides, said: "We arc almost ashamed to havo the British Flag entwined with tho French Flag in the Islands." Tho Minister, it was complained, had allowed this flagrant breach of international etimiottc to pass without demur. Tho deputation now asked tho Consul to acquaint the French Government and French residents as to their, feelings in tho matter. Several letters of protest wore read from French residents in other parts of tho Commonwealth. Tho Consul promised to acquaint the Frcncli Government of tho great concern which tho incident had caused their compatriots in Australia.
