PROFESSIONAL WELTER CHAMPIONSHIP. (By Telegraph.—Special Correspondent.) Wanganui, September 2G. The boxing match for the professional welter-weight championship between "Denny" Murphy (holder) and "Hob" Byrnes (South Australia), took place to-night for a purso of £70. Tho contest only went ten rounds, when Murphy knocked out Byrnes. The latter lacked condition, and, after putting up a pood fight for ten rounds, lie then went down twice, and the sccond time was counted out. Murphy was well ahead on points at this stage. Up to tho present no answer has been rocoived by the Wellington Boxing Association in roply to a letter to Australia, asking if a suitable opponent conld bo secured for the Now Zealand welter champion, Denny Murphy. It is, therefore, unlikely that any match will take place this season.
