NORTH WAIRARAI'A CONTESTS. (By Telegraph.— Special Correspondent.) Masterton, September 26. lhe_ sixth annual prize meeting of the North Wairarapa Riilo Association was concluded to-day. Rifleman R, J. Smith, won Mr. J. B. Sutherland's tiophy lor the best "possible" at the meeting, and also .Air. R. Barrcr's trophy for tho competitor making tho highest aggregate over all matches (handicap included). The championship grand aggregate was responsible for an exciting contest, N. Walden (Kaitawa), and L. Loveday (Woodvillo), registering equal scores. The shoot off was decided upon live shots at GOOyds., and the Kaitawa man won by two points.

J. he Mauriceville match (10 shots at o0 yards, sixteen prizes totalling £14), was won by 11. J. Smith (Opaki), 50, with A. Bcetham (Opaki), -19, runner up, and .ft. J. King (Opaki), 49, third in tlie list. The Greytown match (ten shots at 600 yds., sixteen prizes totalling £14), was won by N. Walden (Kaitawa), with 49 points, R. J. THE SUBURBS DEFENCE CLUB. At a general meeting of the manage'ment of tho Suburbs Riflo Club, it was decided to open their shooting season on Wednesday, October 8, and continue with Wednesday and Saturday matches throughout tho season, tho championship of the club starting on October 15 and 18. The club aro offering an attractive programmo both to seniors and juniors. The first match will be 300 yds., 500 yds., and 600 yds., sevenshot match. In tho "Daily Mail" match, which takes place on .January 22 at Trcntham, over ranges 300vds./000vds., 6(loyds., 800 yds., 900 yds., and 1000 yds., tho, club propose to increase the prize money. The management is offering a prize of £5 to tho competitor who can break the club record for this event. It is at present held by Rifleman T. Goodall, his score last year being 196 out of a possible of 210. More conveniences aro being provided on the range. A telephone has been installed, mid everything points to the club having a good season. Members aro asked to muster in full force on the range on Saturday afternoon. The club "social," which takes placo on Wednesday, October 1. will be favoured by the presence of his Worship the Mayor and .Mrs. Luke, tho club patrons. Airs. Luke is to present the trophies won last year.
