THE CIVIL SIDE. 'THE DEALER'S NOTE OF HAND. At the Magistrate's Court yesterday, Dr. A. M'Artliur dealt with a civil dispute in which Ernest Dyer, furniture dealer, was sued by William Alexander Thomson, land agent, and Thomas Sydney Scott, furnituro dealer, for £20 in respect of on 1.0. U. issued by defendant to tho latter plaintiff, with whom ho,was formerly in partnership. Defendant purcliased from Scott Ins interest in tho business, and gave him an 1.0. U. for £20 in part payment of the purchase money. Scott subsequently assigned to Thomson and Brown, by way of mortgage, tho debt of £2u, and notice of- assignment was sent to defendant, who refused t-o pay either plaintiff. Defendant counter-claimed for £15 18s. 6d. for certain articles of furniture and five week's rent of room. Judgment was given for plaintiffs for tho £20 claimed, and for defendant for £3 lUs. on the counter-claim. Mr. Bcere appeared for plaintiffs, and Mr. P. W. Jackson represented defendant. UNDEFENDED OASES. Dr. A. M'Artlnir, S.M., gave judgment for tho plaintiff by default in tho following undefended ■ cases: —Barber and' Co. v. Crawford v. lia'm Wilson, 10s., costs us. ■ JUDGMENT SUMMONS: ' R. P. Meeshack was ordered to pay £5 os. 6d. to tho Officc Appliance Co. by October 9; aiid William Stevens, jun., to pay £8 4s. 6(1. to Harrington l3ros. by October 9. POLICE CASES. (Before Mr. W. G. Riddell, S.M.) Joseph John Barrett, a prohibited person, was fined 40s. for insobriety, and Matthew Murray was fined 205., whilst Robert Organ was ordered to pay 17s. 6d., cost of curative treatment, a prohibition order being also issued against him. Alexander James -Smith was fined 20s. for insobriety,' and another 205.. for creating a breach of the peace in Cuba Street, his opponent, David M'Namara, being lined 10s.
