A considerable amount of comment lias been occasioned by the publication of a circular letter addressed to parents of students attending Christ's College by tho bursar of tho college, in which it is stated that the governing body of the college lias approved and adopted an English-made cloth, of which a sample is enclosed as tlio material to bo used for Christ's College boys' suits. jfcis name of the firm from which tho clotli cim be obtained, and also tho prico of it aro given. The Industrial Association, which lias been endeavouring to educate tho community to use Dominion manufactured goods, has asked tho governing body to reccivo a deputation on tho subjeot. It is stated that a co*mntteo of tho governing body has had tlio matter under consideration for some time, and recommended t\\e uso of English tweed, 011 the grounds that it is cheaper and hotter than. New Zealand tweed. EMPHATIC DENIAL, PHASE 0? WESTPORT INQUIRY. Wostport, September 23. At tlio Harbour Board Commission, Mr. Dudley, Government Auditor, said, with respect to tlio board's secretary: "Remarks have been made to mo suggesting that thoro is something wrong with Mr. Greenland's accounts. I want to give that impression, if it exists, an emphatic denial. I would like to say that Mr. Greenland is 0110 of' tlio best men I have to do with in my work." Mr. Evans (chairman): Any such .impression has not emanated from the Commission. ( OFFENDERS SENTENCED. Christohurch, Scptembor 23. At the Supreme Court to-day, Jamel Radcliffe came up for sentence on a charge of forgery. Tho Crown Prosecutor stated Radcliifo had been adjudged an habitual criminal in November last, and released on probation by the Prisons Board. He was sentenced to two years' imprisonment. William Byron Carter, convicted on three charges of forgery, was sentenced to six months on each, the terms to run concurrently. Auckland, September 23. In tho Supremo Court Frank Brittemen pleaded guilty to criminal assault on children at llotorua, and was sentenced to three years' imprisonment on each of two charges, the terms to Do concurrent.
BANKRUPT'S BOOKS. Auckland, September 23. In the Police Court William George Lambert, charged that, during August, lie failed to keep proper books in accordant with tho Bankruptcy Act, was remanded, to appear at Duuedin. Bail was fixed at one surety of £150 and two of £75 each. Lambert said ho was recently adjudicated bankrupt wlien carrying on business aß_ a jeweller. Ho liad informed tho Official Assignee tliat ho was leaving for Auckland, and, no objection being taken, lie came here a fortnight aeo- 1

Napier, September 23. The hearing of-tho divorce suit Herbert Fletchcr v. Anuio Christina Fletcher and John Conncry (misconduct) was concluded to-day. A decree nisi was granted with costs against the co-respondent.
