On Saturday afternoon an inspection Nvas made of tho western arm of the Hutt River by representatives of the four local bodies interested —the Petone Coiuicil (tho Mayor and' Councillor Truoman), Lower fiutt (the Mayor and' Councillors Meldrum, Hodgins. and Fhypers), Hutt County Council (tho chairman, Mr. Galloway, and Councillors Welch and Wakeham), Hutt River (Board (the chairman, Mr. H. Baldwin; and Mr. Willoughby Knight). Mr. Fisher, overseer to the latter body, and Mr. Roche, engineer Hutt Borough Council, were also present. Although So decision was arrived at, the party .•was'enabled by tho visit to see the jtlanger of the natural dam that is forming with silt. It is understood that a ireport will be made to tho local bodies concorned by those ma-king the inspection. .. '
The 'annual prize-giving in connection Vitli the Petone -Church of Clirist Sunday School took place yesterday a-fter-'jioon; before a largo gathering. Sir. It. 'A. Wright (Wellington) addressed the meeting on "Obedienco." Items were rendered by Mesdames Aslihy, Murgatroyd; and Franklin, and Messrs. Moors -. ;,Miss IJuth 'Ashby was tlio organist, and a pleasant time "was spent. A number of men , completed the cleansing of the upper reservoir at Koro-ICoro on Saturday afternoon. In order that operations might. commence as soon as possible after mid-day, the dam was released- at fibout 10 a.m. This caused l some trouble in tho Wellington ■\yoollen Company's factory, as these premises are supplied with water from a dam lower down tho Koro-ICoro Stream. The rush of muddy waters consequently affected' the boilers, the dyeing department, and the blanketroom. Usually the, upper dam is released after 11.45 o'clock on Saturday,, 'but by some misainderstanding this wai not dono this time.
