THE WAIRARAPA FEELING. (By Correspondent..) Masterton, September 21. On Saturday, Mr. P. ■H. Bakewell, M.A., delivered an intfireating address before about ninety teachers on ideals of education. ,
At a largely-attended meeting of tho, Wairarapa branch of tho. Teachers' Institute on Saturday, the 'following motion was carried unanimously this branch of tho'Now. Zealand Institute is disappointed to find that no reference was made by the Minister for Education in' his recent statement in Parliament to promise that tho salaries of tho secondary assistants in the district high schools would be specially considered this session, nor to promise that all teachers suffering of salary this year, on account of falling attendance, would be reimbursed." The following remits for consideration at the annual conference at Auckland in January wero also pnsseS: —(1) "That tho annual meeting _ of tho N.Z.E.I. ho held in AVellington in futuro during tlie session of Parliament." . (2) "That an ex-primary schoolmaster bo appointed secretary and organiser of the N'.Z.E.I, and that lto bo also editor of the official Journal." (3) "That all delegates to tho annual conference he required each year to lay before tho members of Parliament of their respective districts the result of the deliberations of the conference, and that they act in concert with tho N.Z.E.I, in so doing." (4) "That the houso allowance of teachers bo not subject to reduction owing to any fall in attendance."
