DEFENCE TRAINING.
'PARTICULARS OF EXEMPTIONS,
When the Defence Estimates were being discussed in tho House of Representatives last evening, tho Minister for , Defence supplied some particulars regarding the number of men and lads registered under the Act, but not undergoing training. The total number registered is over 71,000. ' Of this number 6980 are senior cadets, registered, but not yet posted. Persons registered for service who have been allowed to leave the Territorial Force on fcompletjon of the necessary service, towards which service in tho volunteers counts, number 1300. Men registered, • but living in exempted districts, number 1050. Deaths, departures from the .Dominion, eto., account for 8500. The return- from .which tho Minister quoted ' stated that' the number of men -physically unfit was five per cent, of tho total number registered. "I think there are .. more than that," Mr. Allen commented. ' The number of boys who have reached Senior Cadet age, bjit are still attending primary schools, Ib 1588. ;
