THE MAGISTRATE'S REBUKE,

"This chap gives us a lot of trouble on parade," explained a non-commis- ' sioned officor when referring to a Territorial, who was charged in the Petone Court on Wednesday with having failed to ' attend ccrtain parades. "I'm not very particular," said the magistrate (Dr. M'Arthur), "but I do object to the uso of the expression 'this chap' in Court." , Thus rebuked, the witness corrected himself by the substitution -of the defendant's name for ''this chap," but on several occasions in the morning the expression "this chap" slipped out again. Tho magistrate also administered a mild rebuke to a plaintiff for the use of slang when the plaintiff asked a judgment debtor if it wqs not a fact that he put on "a jolly sight more side than' the Mayor of Petono." Finally, wlion a solicitor protested agninst tho othor sido "swinging it on to his client," the magistrate expressed tho opinion that the "Court must bo deteriorating this morning."
