HOCKEY & PROPRIETY.
SOME PRESS CORRESPONDENCE.
(By Telegraph—Special Correspondent.) Wanganul, September 18. A somewhat unpleasant incident has marked the oloso of tho ladies' hockey tournament. It has arisen out of what is alleged to be an inspired paragraph iu a local paper that local youths had been forcing unwolcomo attentions on the visiting girls, whose opinion was that Wanganui possessed more ill-be-haved larrikins than any . other, place in the Dominion. A correspondent in one of the papers then took lip tho cudgols on behalf of the local young _.men by asserting that the visitors invited such treatment by their rowdy behaviour, and by (conduct the ieverso of ladylike. Somo heated passages have occurred in tho press, but to little purpose, and tho matter now appears to have been dropped. . '
