SCHOOL COMMITTEE ELECTIONS.

The payment of an additional an« nual sum to tlio holder of a junior or . senior national scholarship is made conditional upon tlio arraugemonts mado in respect of liis board aiid residence • being approved by tlio Education Board. The provision that not more than one; Taranaki scholarship shall bo awarded;, in any one year to ono school is do-; joted. . ' „ . At present tho election or school Committees takes placo on tho fourth Monday in April of each yoar. It is ■proposed that tho election day- bImII bo either tho fourth Monday in April or such later dato (not being more than twenty-eight days later) as is fixed by ' tho board. Consequential amendments are mado in tho clauses relating to tho announcement of election re-1 suits and bo forth. It is provided that' tho annual reports of committees shall bo for tho period ending on the last day of February instead of on March 31. At school committee elections under the present law nominations may bo lodged, either in writing beforehand or at tho mooting of householders. Tho Bill proposes that nominations of the lattor class shall -only bo rocoivcd, wliero a sufficient number of nominations liavo) not been duly lodged beforehand. Another clauso provides that the an- ( nual education report and .statement of accounts shall cover the period onding on the last day of February instead of oil March 31.
