TWO AMENDING BILLS. Two Bills, the Rangitaiki Land DrnilN ago Amendment Bill, and tlio Ilauraki Plains Amendment Bill, wcro introduced into the Houso of Representatives yesterday by tlio Minister for Lands (tlio Hon. W. F. Massey). Tlio only material amendment proposed by tlio Rangitaiki Bill has to do with tho raising ot £50,000 for expenditure under tho Act. The original Act prescribed that the Stato Guaranteed Advances Office 'should advance tlio money to tho Minister for Lands. The amendment proposed is that the Minister may,, on being authorised by the Governor-in-Council, raise on tho security of tho public receivers of New Zealand, such sums of money as ho thinks lit. not exceeding in tho whole £50,000.. Tlio proposal referring to Ilauraki Plains is similar. Tho present law'permits tho Minister for. Finance to apply to tho drainage of tho Hauraki Plains tho sum of £180,000 from tho moneys borrowed for tho purpose of granting, loans to local bodioß. Tho amending Bill permits tho Finance Minister to borrow ill tlio ordinary way for tho Ilauraki drainago works a sum uofc ox« Seeding £145,01K).
