BATTALION COMPANIES.

FOUR INSTEAD OF EIGHT. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Rec. September 17, 11.40 p.m.) London, September 17. A special Army Order announces that infantry battalions, after the end of September, will be divided into four companies, each company having four platoons, with a mounted major or captain in command, a captain as second in command, and subalterns in command of the platoons. Advocates of the change point out that the battalion commander exorcises more effective control than with tho previous organisation of eight companies, and is enabled to feed his firinglino more effectively. With a larger company, also, fewer officers will bo'required.
