In tlio Federal House of Representatives, Mr. Kolly, honorary Minister, in moving tlio second reading, explained the provisions of the amending Electoral Bill. It provides against the flooding of tlio rolls on the eve of elections, abolishes Saturday polling, and restore! tlio postal vote, and gives freedom to press criticism. Mr. Kelly declared that tlio pross had been gagged during tlio last election bocause it had criticised the Labour party. Tlio gag had been introduced to intimidate individual members of tlio press: tiicse men were to be driven, by fear or the consequences, from writing tlio truth. Ho would rather b'o in Opposition through unfair criticism than in power through the gagging of tho prcsß, The Liberals feared no criticism. Tho debate was adjourned.
