KILBIRNIE RINK DESTROYED.
0 FIRE GAVE ITS OWN DALE. • Shortly after 3.30 yesterday morning, the City Fire Brigade received a "oall" to the South Kilbirnie Skating Rink, and it afterwards transpired that the fire itself, had registered the "call,' having burnt through and broken one of tha electrio wires on":the pole outside the building. There had been a skating carnival hold, ono of tho last of the season, as the rink was to have been closed in about a fortnight's time, aiid it is thought that the fire, which originated in the skate-room, was caused >by a lighted match or cigarette which a thoughtless smoker had 1 thrown down. When the brigade arrived the building was pretty well destroyed, though \ the tea-room was saved. Tho building, which was owned by Messrs. J. \\.' Eaaaon," Ltd., and leased by Mr/Thomas Torpay, was insured in the Loudon and Lancashire Company for £3000, and the furniture and effects, were insured tor '£400 with the Northern TJnion Com-" pany. The building, which, along with • its contents, was totally destroyed, except for tho tea' room, had: suffered many vicissitudes, having more than once been 'blown over by the gales of wind which sweep across Kilbirnie in full force. The damaee to- tho Building is estimated at £4000, so that it is under-insured for £1500, and the furmture and effects were under-insured'for £300. ■. ' ■
