THE NEWTOWN CLUB AS HOSTS. During the past week the Newtown Bowling Club entertained members of the Hataitai Club and Petono and Hutt Clubs at card evenings. Tho Hataitai members put up a good- fight in bridge, eucliro, and five hundred against the home members, and, when play finished, honours wore even, 35 games each. Mr. Galvin, in the course or a speech, made reference to the pleasantovehing which the Hataitai men had enjoyed, and Mr. J. Trevor, Newtown, vice-president, spoko in reply on behalf of tho home members. . The visitors from Petono and Hutt won 32 games, as against Newtown's 35 at fivo hundred, euchre, and cribbage. After supper, Mr. J. Gallie, speaking for the home membors, thanked the visitors'for their attendance. Mr. Henry, for tho Potone members, and Mr. Macaskill for those from Hutt, also spoko. At a meeting of the directors of tho Victoria Bowling Club held last evening it was decided to open tho season on Saturday, October 4.
