Tho latest estimato of the population of New South Wales by Mr. J. B. Trivett, the State Statistician, makes it clear that, unless' there is any very marked change in present tendencies, there will bo two million persons in tho State within a reasonably short period. Mr. Trivett estimat-cd tho population on Juno 30 at 1,809,125. In order to roach tho two million mark, a further 190,875 would have to be added. The population of Greater Sydney is estimated at tho present moment at, roughly, threequarters of a million, or over 40 per cent, of the total. If the population of New South Wales in 1916 is two millions it is practically certain that the number of persons living .in tho metropolis will cxceed eight hundred thousand. Itwould seem, therefore, that it will not be very long before Sydney actually attains tho million mark—probably in about ten years or even less.
