Mr. Gordon Webber, member for Abboteford in tho Victorian- Legislative Assembly, and tho first Labour representative to bo elected Mayor of Richmond, has aroused comment by omitting tho loyal toast at a function lie gnvo to mark' his election-to the Mayoralty. He explains: "I omitted it,because I consider it to be superfluous. Personally, 1" am a Republican. The King is only a figuro-liead, and as such he is recognised. In saying this I do not consider I am not loyal."
