SMALLPOX EDIDEMIC.
VACCINATION ORDER DISOBEYED. By Tolerraph—Press Association—Oopyriglit (Rec. September 5, 10.16 p.m.) \ Sydney, September 3. Two seamen on the' steamer Kent have beon sontenced to soven days' hard labour for disobeying tho captain's orders to bo vaccinated. Tho accused submitted that they had been vaccinated iu Now Zealand, aiid that tlieir arms had been sore in consequence. Another inoculation would, they declared, interfere with their work as stokers. Tlhe captain stated that he was unablo to obtain his clearanco papers unless all tho crow had been vaccinated. (R«c. September G. 1.5 a.m.) Sydney, September 5. ! Seven smallpox cases were reported to-day in tho Metropolitan area. Sixty patients are now in quarantine. Brisbane, September 5. Queensland is now practically free from smallpox, only one sufferer remaining—tho ease at Ipswich.
