MINING RIGHTS WHIT OV MANDAMUS ISSUED. Sitting in Banco at the Supreme Court yesterday, his Honour Mr. Justico Chapman heard an application by Mr. 31. Myers on behalf of the Public Trustee (as executor of the will of the lato Sir Alfred Jerome CVlman) for a writ of mandamus to compel James Sim Evans, Warden of the Karamea mining district, to hear and report to tho .Minister upon nn application for pioteetion of a mining privilcgo at Parapara, Collingwood. Defend wit filed an affidavit, but did not appoar. It was stated- that on Dooambor 18,

1012, protection was granted for six months, and 011 June' 9 1913, application was made for a further three months' protection in order that tlio holders of tho privilego might have further tinio to put before tho Government proposals for tlio development of the iron industry, 'l'he Warden hold that he had no jurisdiction to grant this protection or to forward his report to tlio Minister. His Honour directed that a mandamus should issuo in the terms asked for, remarking that tho Warden's proper courso was to hear tho application and forward his report and recommendations to tho Minister.
