MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
MEETING OF CREEK & CREEK. FEUD IN THE KITCHEN. Following on a kitchen fend between two Greeks, a story involving a light with knives wus ventilated at tlio Mag-' istratc's Court yesterday before Mr. W. G. lliddell, S.M. 'l'lic case concerned Panogiolis Tyanakos, who was charged with assaulting Gregory Karanzi, so as to causo him actual bodily harm.' Dr. Henry deposed that the complainant had received a severo bruise 011 the right jaw, and a slight fracture of his nose. After hearing the medical evidence, his Worship reduced the charge to one of common assault. Tyanakos pleaded not guiltv, and was defended by. Mr. T. M. Will'ord. Evidence for the prosecution went in the direction of showing that both men were ill tho employment of Gallate Bros. The complainant alleged that accused had assaulted him without warning. Tho accused, however, swore that Karanzi had first come at liini with a knife. Tho magistrate held that there had been provocation, but not, sufficient to warrant such an assault. Accused would bo convicted and ordered to pay costs. . Counsel for defendant intimated that it was intended to appeal against the conviction. Security for appeal was fixed at £8 Bs. * PURLOINED BACON. A sentence of ono month's imprisonment'was ordered in the case of George Hastings, an old olfondcr, who admitted tho theft of a roll of bacon, tho property of George Talbot. The polico stated that accused had tucked tho bacon under his arm, whilo tho shopkeeper's attention was diverted. THE GAMING ACT. George Henry Dixon (publislicr of tho "Now Zealand Times") and Albert Blanton (manager of Tiie Dominion) were charged with publishing an advertisement relating to a certain lottery called "Lipton's All Prize Competition, with intent to induco the public to take part in the lottery, contrary to tho provisions of the Gaming Act. Mr. T. C. A. Hislop, who appeared for defendant in The Dominion case, pleaded guilty, explaining that the relation of tho Lipton announcement to tho Gaining Act had been overlooked. Inspector Hendry intimated that it was not suggested that tlioro had been any wilful attempt to evade the Act. Mr. Sim, who appeared for defendant Dixon, entered a plea of guilty, and stated that the facts wero tho saino as in tho previous case. Under the circumstances, his Worship imposed a line of '10s. in each case. CHARGE SHEET FLOTSAM. Henry Edwards and Samuel Smith were each fined 40s. for disorderly conduct whilst intoxicated. For insobriety, Colin Campbell was fined 405.: Harry Liddy, 10s.; and Neil M'Leod, 10s. For a like offenco Joseph Barrett was ordered to pay 17s. (id. medical expenses.
