Mculi, Cameron, and M'Leod combined in a nico piece of passing and Loveridgo tried a Glint which failed. Further in-and-out play was followed by a great run by Wogan, but ho passed too soon and tho ball wont out. Tlio visitors wero speedier than Taranaki, whose forwards worked well. Tho tackling of tho Yellows was weak. Taranaki had a fruitless Gliot at goal and then ' Whittiugton, Cain, and Taylor headed a rush which ended near tho visitors' corner flag. Piini headed a rush, and missed ,i score. From a scrum tho ball went through all the backs' hands; 'but Roberts held too long before giving to Mculi,! and a sure score was lost. Wostport, August 30. ■ Ideal weather prevailed for tho match on Victoria Squaro this afternoon between tho Canterbury Rugby Union's touring team and tho Buller team. Tho gamo was chiefly a forward one, although tho visitors occasionally indulged in passing runs. Tho Buller backs wcro sound,' but did not show tho brilliancy in attack expected of them. In tlio first spell, Buller, though playing with the sun against them, moro than held their own, and Bligh scored two tries, ono of which Atchison converted, the spell ending—Buller, 8; Canterbury, nil. 1 On changing over, Canterbury assumed t'ho aggressive, and kept Buller for a time moro or loss on their defence. Finally the backs got well away, and tho ball passing from Omrod to Wallace, then to Watson, Boag, and Guthrio, who scored. Tho try was converted by Hasscll, making the position—Buller, 8; Canterbury, 5. From this out Buller had much the hotter of tho game. Time and again thoy made hot work under Canterbury's goal posts, just failing to score. Tho whistle, however, sounded .with tlio position unaltered. , French, tho Buller forward, who recently toured Australia with tho Maori team, stood out on his own among tho forwards, and it is difficult to understand why ho was not included in tho' Californian team. Bligh and Molloy, of tho local team, and Hasscll, Burns, Omrod, and Cuminings of tho visitors, wcro tlio other prominent forwards. Colvin (Buller) and Fuller (Canterbury) wero the pick of tho backs. / Buller have won three representative matches played this, with total points: 55 for, 17 against.
