'A letter was received from the Cali* fomian Rugby Union in .reply to one 6ent by : the Now Zealand: Control re Sunday games. The letter states that a Sunday match had- been scheduled for November' 9 against one of the Catholic colleges, and Sunday was dhosen as being the only.day on which a big crowd could be attracted. However, the team Bre now to play a matoh at Los Angeles on Saturday, November 8, instead of the Sunday ifixturc. November 8 was originally set apart for the New Zealanders to witness tlh» annual match between the Universities of California and Stanford, but this will now have to be foregone. No Sunday matches will'there- • jre be placed during the tour. The appointment of' officers for the Californian touring team was postponed until next meeting. j ' Nominees for Test Cames. The following supplementary nominations were received for the second and third test teams to play the Australian representative touring team:—Wellington : Evenson, J. Eva.n, Tilyard, Numi. . As blood-poisoning • set in after the accident, it was at one time feared' that t)he limb would have : to be but an operation which was performed had rendered this ' unnecessary. That Strange Letter, A curious position has arisen in respect of H. Atkinson's (West Coast) place in the Californian team. A' letter, purporting to come from Atkinson, and addressed to the chairman of the New Zealand Union, • was • received, • which said: "As it is impossible for me to go with the football team to San Franoisco, . I must notify , you. (Signed) H. Atkinson." When this letter was published, a Press Association telegram uanio from Grevmouth, denying Atkinson's withdrawal. -The socrc-t-nrv of the New Zealand Rugby Union (Mr. J- D.-Avery)'immediately telegraphed to Atkinson for an explanation, seeing that ho had received a letter of withdrawal. A telegram then arrived from the secretary of the West Coast Union, stating that the information that Atkinson would not be able to make the trip was incorrect, and that Atkinson would arrive in Wellington on September 4. This was followed by 2 totogram from Atkinson hirasoli, emphatically denying the authorship of th« letter. He presumed that ho still retained his place irt the team, having made no withdrawal. Whether ( the original letter received, signed H Atkinson," is an impudent forgery or i peculiar kind of practical joke (it wa: addressed from. Hokitika, wjiile Atkinson's address is apparently Greymouth, is to be' investigated, as a motion was passed, instructing the West Coast
