CASEIN OPERATIONS.

The New Zealand Casein Company's first year, just ended, has proved a good our.., Two hundred and fifty tons of casein were llramiflactuTed at its factor}' at Aramoho, the quantity of milk from which it was extracted being about two million t*allona. That this is a good thing for farmers may be judged by tho fact that it is estimated that they received an addition /of ten psr cent, to their usual milk cheques, through leaving skim milk to bo treated for casein. Tho extraction company's output was exported to England and tho Continent of I'hnope. The second year is also expected to be busy, as behresn 25 and 30 factories are supplying. Tho company's staff is now engaged in erecting a factory at Frankton Junction for tho New Zealand Dairy Association.

An example of one of the manifold uses to -which casein can 1» puit is afforded by an exhibit now an view in tho window of the local offifce in the shapo of a. beautifully finished set of chess men and a chess board. Tills is all made out of casein which was turned out at Araincho. The casein was chemically treaUd to make it non-inflammable,- and it takes colours splendidly, the result being a set of which any <ihess player might bo proud.
