JUBILEE SHOW
Tho Hawke's Bay Agricultural aud Pastoral Socioty aro this year celebrating their jubilee, tho first show of tho society having been licld at Havelock North in 18ti3. From a very humble beginning tho Hawke's Bay show lias grown in importance, until it is now ono of tho leading stock shows of tho Dominion, both in the number and quality of tho exhibits. Breeders aud exhibitors will doubtless Tally ronnd this .iociety and make the forthcoming jubilee show what .the society is endeavouring to make it, viz., a record show in every respect. A glance at the very fine hook programino which has just been issued to breeders and members indicates that the society on its part is working hard to ensure that succcss. In order to fittingly commemorate tho jubileo the society are offering a number of jubilee silver medals, 0110 or more of which has been allotted to every section of the show. These medals are all in addition to tho usual priz-e money and specials. Thero are also three jubilee gift .classes with piize money totalling .£33. The whole of tho exhibits in these will bo auctioned on the second day of the show, the proceeds to go 'to the new showground fund, and it is anticipated that a large number of owners of both large and small Hocks will take tliis means of contributing to tho society's new showground fund, and at tho same time assisting to commemorate the society's jubilee. The programme is in itself a most artistic production, and contains many fine portraits of animals, many of which have been champions at past shows of the society, also two pretty views of the new showground, taken from a position in Mr. W. Nelson's grounds adjoining. Tho total amount of prize money and specials which will be distributed amounts to .£IBSO, which is a record for tho society. The show -wall take. place on October 22 and 23.
Patrick Howe, who claims to bo the champion, shearer of Australasia, is in Taumarunui nt. present. Ho claims to havo shorn 377 sheep in ono day in Australia, this constituting a record tally.
At a meeting of tho directors of the Balfour Dairy Factory Company last week, Mr. H. Hursts (Dipton) was appointed dairy factory manager out of thirteen applicants for tho position. .
Mr. "W. M'lntosh, of Hamilton, has been appointed secretary to the To Kuiti Distriot Co-operatiye Dairy Company, and will take up his duties nt the beginning of September. Hr. 31'Intosh has been for somo years in tho employ of Messrs. Goodfellow, Ltd., prior to which he occupied n responsible position in a commercial houso in Glasgow.
The A. and P. Association resolved yesterday 'to discontinue their annual horso parades on account of the lack of support.
At the last meeting cf the Jersey Breeders' Association, the secretary, Mr. J. C. Lane, tendered his resignation, after occupying the position for A great many years. His successor will bo Mr. W. M. 'rapp, the well-known Jersey breeder and judge, of Auckland.
