CHESTERFIELD SEAT. By T«l«gTttsli—Prass AaioolaUon—Copyright London, August 15. The executive of tho Miners' Federation has repudiated Mr. Kenyon's candidature for the Chesterfield scat. Ho is a loyal miners' official, and is strongly supportedby the district lodges. Mr. Ramsay Mac Donald, Labour M.P., describes Mr. Kenyon as more tho Liberal than the Labour candidate. . (Rec. Aug-ist 17, 5.5 p.m.) London, August 16, Mr. Asquith (the Prime Minister), in a message, wishes Mr. Keuyon success in his by-election fight -for + he Chesterfield- servtMr. Kenyon describes the Miners' Federation Executive's decision as part of a game played by the Labour party's So-' cialist extremists. Several of tho local officials predict that as the, result of the executive's intervention, the miners of Derbyshire in tho Midlands will revert to Liberalism.
' Mr. Asquith's letter constitutes Mr. Kenyon the Liberal candidate. The dispute betweem the Miners' Federation and tho Labour party has been referred to the 'Federation's Conference at Scarborough. This incident has tended to loosen Labour support.
" It was previously reported . that the 'Pejrliamentary - Labour .Executive had refused to recognise Mr. Kenyon's candidature for the Chesterfield seat (rendered vacant by the death of Mr. Jos. Hnslam, a 'Labour representative), and that the local Labour party and Liberals had adopted him. The Socialist section is 6trongly opposed to so-called Labour-Lib-eral candidates.
