A HOPELESS CASE.
AUCKLAND AND THE P. AND 0. ■ SERVICE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) Auckland, August 15; Although the P. and o.'Company indicated fairly plainly a few weeks ago that it was intended to cut out Auckland as a port of call, some hope was entertained that it would bo possible to prevail on the company to reconsider tho matter. Last week a cablegram was sent to Mr. Moss Davis, who is now residing in London, asking him to arrange a deputation of New Zcalauders at present in London in ■order that the position might bo fully explained to tlio directors of tho company. Yesterday afternoon tho following cablegram was received in reply from I\lr. Davis:—"Notwithstanding New Zealand Government's and High Commissioner's desire for continuation of tlio P. and 0. service. Sir Tlios. Sutherland, chairman of directors, declines to reconsider the decision to withdraw tho service. Final."
