At the trial of military officials charged with revealing secrets to Krupps, Brand, Krupps' agent, gave evidenco that his special duty was. to ascertain after. contractors' prices. Liebknecht's knowledge of tho affair was derived from von Metzcn, a former chief of tho bureau, who kept a number of secrct reports, and warned witness that he intended to use them.
(Sydney "Sun" Special.—Rec. 'Aug. 3,5.5 p.m.) Berlin, August 2. Brand was kept under the strictest observation by the detectives for three months. Ho was not an educated man, but was highly intelligent, and served in the technical department of the army. Brand gave evidenco that ho iras quite unconscious of doing wrong. His evidenco •was less incriminating against the officers than at the preliminary inquiry, and ho was sharply cross-examined in regard to the discrepancies Ijetween the two statements.
