A sub-conimitteo was set up to consider and report vpon the ndvisableness of procuring a new site'for the greens. Tho Public Works Department has mado a compassionate allowance to tho relatives of tlio Native who was recently : killed through a knob being dislodged from tho Masterton Post Offico in an earthquake.. . Tho Masterton Tailway staff held thesr annual gathering in tho Brill Hall last evening,. There was a large attendance, and dancing was indulged in until tho early hours of tho morning. Mr. A. G. Pilmer, of this town, who recently ; lost his mother, has suffered another bereavement in tho'death of his second' son (Robert Douglas), which occurred at Duncdin on Wednesday, .alio do'oeased, who was 23 years of ago, had been ailing for a considerable time. A large apple orchard which was planted' near Masterton two or three years ago wears a very healthy appearance. It is expected that next year tho orchard will, come to profit. . Satisfaction is expressed at the announcement that the Minister for Public Work's proposes making'a flying survey of this district, to ascertain tho most suitable route for a railway to open up tli9 Fast Coast. The news that Mr. Morgan, of tiio Mines Department, is to bo sent along to report on the oil and miiieral resources is also welcomed,
